Craniosacral Therapy is a relaxing and restorative healing therapy. During the treatment, the practitioner uses a light touch and gentle manual techniques to assess for imbalances in the skeletal, tissue, and cerebrospinal fluid systems of the body.
Craniosacral Therapy can be used alone or in conjunction with acupuncture to release harmful patterns in the Craniosacral system, and to correct structural imbalances to restore the body to health.
Common symptoms treated include but are not limited to:
- Headaches and migraines
- Neck pain
- Back pain
- TMJ
- Sinusitis
- Insomnia
- Chronic fatigue
- Emotional problems
- Stress
Why seek a Craniosacral Therapy treatment?
When a person sustains bodily injury either from physical or emotional trauma, the body may remember the trauma as a harmful pattern that causes physical and/or emotional distress.
A few examples include:
- Trauma from a whiplash injury can be repeated over and over again as chronic back and neck pain years after the accident occurred.
- Teeth grinding or clenching could cause a pattern that expresses as jaw pain and clicking, commonly known as TMJ.
- Repetitive emotional stress can express as migraines or insomnia.
What to expect in a Craniosacral Therapy Treatment
The practitioner takes a complete medical history with a focus on areas of pain, injury and trauma.
The practitioner uses a light touch and performs gentle adjustments and releases on the bones in the head, the spine, and sacrum. Massage and acupressure techniques may also be utilized to release tight muscles. The patient is lying on the table during the treatment and often experiences deep relaxation.
Patients generally come for Craniosacral treatments once per week until their symptoms subside. An acute or new condition requires a shorter course of treatment and a chronic condition requires a longer course of treatment. Patients often choose to continue treatment because they find it so relaxing!
